One of the reading goals I have for 2019 is to tackle the backlists books on my TBR list. It’s not a goal I take on lightly considering the size of my TBR list, which is frighteningly large, but I am stubborn enough to try. I’ve chosen to take the summer off school so I’m going to try and read a lot over the next four months before I step back into my graduate education.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve broken down each of my TBR piles and zeroed in on the books that I really want to read from each of those genres. We’ve covered fiction, non-fiction, romance, young adult, science fiction and fantasy, YA science fiction and fantasy. I’m ending off this series by looking at the books that I wasn’t able to cover in those lists but still really want to read before the end of the summer.
These are my extras and cover the genres that I’ve already broken down but also genres like graphic novels, poetry, and middle grade.
So let’s break it down.
Poetry wise, I have been hungering to read Nayyirah Waheed’s Salt and Yrsa Daley-Ward Bone collection. I’ve read bits and pieces of their works before and I have loved the emotions they evoke while reading them.
Jen Wang’s graphic novel The Prince and The Dressmaker has been on my radar since its debut last year, and I’ve been on the hold list for the book since the middle of last year. I’m getting very, very close to the front of the line and will hopefully be able to devour it soon.
Other graphic novels that are sitting on my TBR pile include Saga by Brian K. Vaughn and Fiona Staples Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur by Amy Reeder, Brandon Montclare and others, The Wicked + The Divine by Kieron Gillen and Matt Wilson, and Hawkeye: Kate Bishop by Kelly Thompson.
I don’t read a lot of middle-grade novels but I’ve been really intrigued by The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street by Karina Yan Glaser.
In the world of fiction, some novels that I didn’t include in my first post include The Regional Office is Under Attack by Manuel Gonzales, Zero Sum Game by S.L. Huang, and The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang.
