Winter 2020 | Reflection

Hi, it’s been a while.

Spring is finally on the horizon. Well, hopefully, because I’m really tired of the snow and shovelling and the cold, bone-chilling winter weather.

These last two months have felt like the longest two months of the whole year, January in particular. It felt like the first month of the New Year would not end and just kept going and going and dragging everything along with it. I was completely drained by the end of the month and that shrouded feeling moved right into February.

The small bits of joy that I felt in January – my Dad’s birthday, a Lunar New Year not marred by a family illness, etc. – were completely gone by the time February rolled around. The small advancements that I thought I had made in the first month of the year had all melted away by the end of the month. It didn’t help that a new epidemic, possibly pandemic, was spreading across the part of the world where I still have immediate family who could become seriously ill if they were to be infected.

January 2020 was the epitome of chaotic dark energy for me.

I started off 2020 feeling good and ready to tackle the world, which then turned into me crawling under the covers and hoping that the Spring would bring forth the energy that I needed to really start something new for the New Year.

Trying to keep my mind focused on something in particular – whether it be reading or diving into a new show has surprisingly been hard for me these past two months. My concentration levels have been all over the place. I’ve had the slowest start when it comes to reading in years and I really didn’t find any show in particular that captured my attention other than a DIY show about renovating chateaus in France, which really makes me want to purchase a chateau somewhere and just fill it with things I love and not leave if I had that kind of money. (Did I mention these past two months haven’t been great for me mentally?)

Luckily romance novels were there to save the day, as they have always done so for me. Sarah MacLean’s novel Brazen and the Beast was a great novel to start the year off with and one I highly recommend. I also discovered how amazing an author Joanna Shupe after reading her novel The Notorious Vow, which I also highly recommend. I also read my first Naima Simone novel and immediately added her WAG series to my TBR list. I also came to the startling realization that I really love the second chance romance trope. Like really, honestly love it, especially when the story and the characters are written well and have that emotional vortex that sucks you into their story and makes you root for two individuals to find their happily ever after.

I’m also really thankful that Netflix for dropping To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You and The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia in February. What I really enjoyed about both of these series is that not only are they lead by WOC leads but that both of the leads are discovering who they are, their place in the world, their power and place in the world, and not being apologetic about it. I need more TV series and movies like this, Universe. Please make it happen.

I have a lot of things planned for the next couple of months when it comes to life and this blog. Thank you for your continued support.

Thanks for reading!
